ABOUT BOILER REPAIRS

Plumbing Repairs

When it comes to your boiler repairs, you can rely on Pivot Plumbing & Heating. We have the expertise to support most boiler types and are available for emergency call-outs, providing you with peace of mind even during out-of-hours emergencies.

How to avoid boiler breakdowns

Book an annual service - servicing your boiler with a gas-safe engineer helps identify issues before they become expensive repairs.

Bleed radiators and check pressure - trapped under low pressure can affect the efficiency of your boiler, making it work harder. Maintaining a balanced system will provide your boiler with the best levels and ensure it can run as expected.

Watch for warning signs - strange noises, unusual fluctuations, and error codes; these are all signs that something is not quite right with your boiler. We recommend acting fast to avoid larger, more expensive problems.

Use your heating system regularly - switching your system off during holidays or summer months without running can see parts seizing and extra effort when it fires back up after the winter months.

Common Reasons for Boiler Breakdowns

There are many reasons for boiler breakdowns and the need for boiler repairs. Here are seven of the most common reasons for boiler breakdown.

One - low pressure: if your boiler pressure drops too low, the boiler can stop working, which often shows itself as cold water running. It's important to keep an eye on this if a problem persists, as it could indicate a wider system issue or possible water leaks in your system.

Two -  frozen condensate pipes, in winter and spring, are crucial, and they carry water waste from the boiler.

Three - A faulty thermostat - often one of the more common issues, a faulty thermostat can stop your heating system from firing up at all. The solenoid in the Control of a manual thermostatically controlled system can fail. It requires thermostat replacement, and this can be a relatively low-cost fix.

Four - Limescale or sludge buildup. Some parts of Hampshire and certainly the Chalky areas of the country are susceptible to limescale buildup. East Anglia is an example of this problem in hot water cylinders and boilers.

Five - Ignition or pilot light failure and boilers. Pilot lights tend to be on older boilers; modern boilers use automatic ignition. Auto ignition failure will result in your system not warming your radiators or water, as it cannot start to do so.

Six - Broken pump: To move the heated water through your heating system, your boiler may use a pump or valve. Depending on your system, a pump may live inside your boiler or externally, but it will be crucial to circulating hot water around your home.

Seven - Old or worn-out parts, like car parts that are used frequently, will wear out over time. An ageing boiler is more likely to see faults and breakdown inefficiencies because of wear on components. Identifying any issues during your boiler service will reduce the chance of this being caught too late and costing you serious money or a brand-new boiler.
